2nd August FONTE DOS CLERIGOS

Breakfast: Our own orange juice, grapes and peaches
On our way out of the village this morning the post lady flagged us down to say we had mail; it was our water analysis results. So this proves we can get mail; where are our car documents?
We drove into Fundao to get supplies; we can only keep enough food in the van for three days at a time, which is a pain – fresh produce goes off very quickly in the heat, especially lettuce which becomes a soggy brown mess!
We bought some tomato jam; we keep seeing it on the shelves and thought might be like a chutney (which the Portuguese don’t seem to do); well if I’d been doing a ‘taste test’ I’d have thought it was strawberry jam – it was surprisingly delicious in a weird kind of way. I made a lovely salad dressing with it using chillies and lime juice.
We’re being really careful with our Kindle internet access; this afternoon Brett logged onto the expat forum (it uses a lot of data so we don’t log in very often). We had a message from a couple who are moving into our village (they should be signing their documents today) how exciting is that? I so hope they are normal! Their message said that they want to set up an ‘eco luxury campsite’; we have no idea what that is but we’re guessing yurts. Anyway hopefully we’ll meet them soon and find out.
This evening the swifts gave us a fabulous air display; they we swooping and diving right overhead and between us, we could hear the “whoosh” of the air being pushed out of the way by their bodies as they passed us, it was absolutely magical.
Brett managed to get a photo with his Ipod
